Almaden, Cambrian: Pioneer boys, girls lose close games in CCS semifinals

They say that all wonderful things must come to an end, and that was certainly actual for the Pioneer High School girls and boys soccer teams last week.

The marvelous things that were the 2016-17 seasons for both teams of Mustangs came to end in the Central Coast Section semifinals last week when the Pioneer boys lost a tough 4-3 decision to eventual champion Petersburg Ignatius and the girls lost a heartbreaker 5-4 on penalty kicks to Santa Clara, a team that went on to share the section championship with Woodside after playing to a scoreless tie in the title game.
